Money Challenges: 5 Quick Tips to Save some $$$

There are always little ways to cut your budget and save a few dollars without getting bent out of shape or giving up a huge luxury.  It's not about being cheap just smart.  Here's 5 quick tips or reminders from HowStuffWorks.COM on how to save money.

5.  Turn Down the Heat--The recommended temperature to keep your thermostat set to is 68 degrees.  The estimated savings by turning it down a little is 1 to 3 percent per degree you change. This could add up to hundreds of dollars.

4. Buy Clothes only on Sale--Don't focus on brands, look for versatile pieces that can be worn despite the season or temperature.  Wait the $50 designer jeans will be on sale soon for 75% off-a very common price reduction when changing seasons.

3Buy Non-Perishables Items in Bulk--The best items to buy in bulk are paper goods. Toilet paper, paper towels and printer paper never go bad and store easily. It's also sensible to stock up on cleaning supplies, garbage bags, soap, shampoo, and laundry detergent [source: U.S. News and World Report]. These are things you'll always need and will certainly use -- and won't go bad.  You can save 5-10% on buying in bulk.

2.  Skip Starbucks--I did say you don't have to give up a luxury--however, just stick with the basic coffee at Starbucks If you move away from a 16oz. cup of Americano-you'll jump your coffee price up by $2 dollars on average.  Keep it basic or make it at home and save even more.

1.  Bike it!--Yep, if you live in a city or in an area where you can ride a bicycle do it. Get some much needed exercise and you could save anywhere from $30 to $100 per week. WOW!  Try it.
